Twisters Gymnasts Sign Full Scholarships on National Signing Day!

Wednesday, November 8th, 2017 – It was a proud day for American Twisters, as two of our high school seniors, Alexandra Greenwald and Abby Johnston, signed their National Letter of Intent to receive FULL athletic scholarships to NCAA Division I universities in the sport of gymnastics. In addition to their athletic scholarships, these incredible Level 10 gymnasts have both earned FULL academic scholarships, showing their unwavering dedication both in and out of the gym, and we couldn’t be more proud of them. The Twister family had a wonderful time celebrating their successes with a festive signing ceremony.

In 2018, Alex Greenwald will become a Hawkeye at the University of Iowa and Abby Johnston will become a Husker at the University of Nebraska. These incredible athletes join a bevvy of Twister gymnasts who have gone on to graduate and become successful collegiate gymnasts. They have been perfecting their gymnastics skills and learning valuable lessons in dedication, perseverance, communication and teamwork over their last decade with American Twisters.

Alexandra, or better known to her teammates and coaches as “Alex”, has been a part of the Twisters family since 2004. Now a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Alex has been training with Twisters for over 10 years and has built an impressive resume both athletically and academically. She is looking forward to one final competitive season with Twisters before heading off to college and making her mark as an Iowa Hawkeye. Alex hopes to become an All American gymnast and place in the top four at NCAA Championships.

Abby, originally from Michigan, moved across the country to join the American Twisters team program over a decade ago. The two-time Florida State All Around Champion, Regional Beam and Floor Champion, and two-time J.O. National Qualifier has already earned an impressive career, and looks to continue her success as part of the Big Ten at Nebraska in 2018.

Alex and Abby’s successes are a testament not only to their own dedication to the sport, but also to the dedication and sacrifices made by their families to get them to where they are today, and to the passion of their coaches who motivated them and guided them to achieve and surpass their goals. Their teammates, coaches and Twister family will be sad to see Alex and Abby go, but the impact and legacy they will leave behind will live on and inspire generations of Twister gymnasts to come.
