It may not feel like it in Florida quite yet, but fall is underway. The kids are back to school, fall classes are rockin’ and our 2018 seniors are off to college! American Twisters proudly sent two full-scholarship seniors to NCAA Division I Universities this year. Abby Johnston received a full scholarship to the University of Nebraska and Alexandra Greenwald received a full scholarship to the University of Iowa. Go Huskers and Hawkeyes!

Even though our 2018 seniors are missed in the gym, their presence is certainly felt, and the pride and inspiration they’ve left with us will stay forever. As we reflect on an incredible summer, we want to take this time to recognize newly-minted Nebraska Husker Abby Johnston, for her hard work, dedication and success as a Twister gymnast and wish her the very best in her upcoming collegiate career.

The The two-time Florida State All Around Champion, Regional Beam and Floor Champion and two-time J.O. National Qualifier kicked it up a notch this summer and became NATIONAL CHAMPION on Beam, placed second on Floor, placed second All Around and earned a spot on the NATIONAL TEAM. A dazzling finish to her decade-long career with Twisters!

One of our favorite flashback moments comes from Head Coach Christy Ramirez:

“That moment when you realize that everything finally fell into place. That after all those long hours of training; working through fear and frustration; staying late after practice was over, just for this one moment. The moment you realize you just witnessed her best routine ever and now she’s a National Champ. No one deserves it more. @_abigailjohnston I cried tears of joy watching you last night. I also had an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. We did this together. We have a decade of memories to always fall back on. Lots of highs and lows. But oh boy, was this a high. You’re onto bigger things now…. Soar like an eagle #myhero“


We are proud of Abby for her successes. But more than that, we are proud of Abby for who she is and the example she set for her peers and her younger teammates. She gives them something to aspire to and someone to look up to.

Abby, we love who you are and excited for who you will become. You will always be a part of our Twisters family. As you begin your first year as a collegiate gymnast and an NCAA Division I athlete, we wish you the best of luck and hope you will always keep Twisters in your heart!
